Due to recent weather, oxygen levels have reduced and we have therefore decided to close the lake until these return to a safe level.
The Water Management Team have deployed aerators and the EA have visited to help further with this.
After the analysis of the sample of water taken by the EA the conclusion is that the oxygen crash was due to an algae bloom dying in the rain on Wednesday night. It has since been identified that Thurlows has blue/green algae, which is poisonous to humans and can be deadly to animals. Once the lake re-opens all anglers are to ensure they wash their hands if in contact with the lake water and keep dogs away from Thurlows for their own safety.
Thanks in advance for your co-operation in this matter,
Water Management
